Boynton High School, Camden Community Day & Alternative Programs
Principal – Michael J. Madalinski April 2008 - Volume 1 – Edition 7 Superintendent – Dr. Rhonda Farber
Please join me in congratulating Andre Harris for being selected as the Student of the Month for February. Congratulations are also in order for Lisette Castellon for being selected as the Student of the Month for March. Both students are very deserving of this honor. Both students are model citizens, attend school regularly and are making excellent progress toward graduation. We are all very proud of their accomplishments.
Two Boynton students, Ms. Jackie Lewis and Ms. Lisette Castellon were awarded scholarships by the Country Woman’s Club of Campbell. These two young ladies had to apply for the scholarships and be interviewed by a panel of women representing the club. This was an arduous process and we are all very impressed with their accomplishments. They will also be honored at a dinner on May 19.
The WASC visit was a smashing success. The team of educators was here from Sunday, March 30 until Wednesday, April 2. The team members interviewed students, teachers, parents and secretaries. They also interviewed the superintendent and most of the other district office personnel. They visited classrooms and looked at examples of student work. During their final report to the staff, they were very complimentary and let all of us know that we are on the right track. We will know the outcome of the visit once the commission meets at the end of April. We expect to hear the length of our term of accreditation by the end of May.
The Boynton High School Career Faire was held on Wednesday, April 16. Students had a choice to hear four presentations from the twenty-three speakers. The speakers represented many professions and local community colleges. One speaker, a disc jockey from KBAY told his listening audience how impressed he was with Boynton High School students.
On Thursday, April 17 the students and staff members were entertained and inspired by
Edgar “ShoBoy” Sotelo. Edgar is the afternoon drive-time disc jockey for La Kalle 100.7 and 105.7 FM radio. Edgar told the students an inspiring story about his life. The students and staff members were very attentive and appreciative. Many of the Boynton students listened to Edgar’s “shout-out” during his radio show that afternoon. He was also very impressed with the respect shown by the students. It was a great presentation.
Please look at the testing schedule which was mailed home to you. Seniors do not take the CST (California Standards Test). Because of this, all seniors report to school after testing on Tuesday, April 29, Wednesday, April 30 and Monday, May 5. Thursday, May 1 is a regular school day. Friday, May 2 is a minimum day and seniors do not report to school at all on that day.
