Please join the entire Boynton staff in congratulating Amanda Garcia and Rodolfo Loza for being selected as the October Students of the Month. Amanda and Rodolfo were introduced to the entire student body during the video announcements on Tuesday, November 20. They both received a plaque, a backpack and a gift certificate for Starbucks. They also have their names engraved on a perpetual plaque in the Boynton lobby.

The Student of the Month for November was Darlene Wurtz. Darlene also received a Starbucks gift certificate, backpack and plaque. She was introduced to the student body during the video announcements on Wednesday, December 5.

Students of the Month are selected by the staff. The criteria used for selection are attendance, academic progress, and citizenship.

Once again, I want to encourage all parents to log on to School Loop as a way of communicating with Boynton staff members.  As most of you know, many Boynton teachers post information on School Loop on a regular basis.  Other information that you will find on School Loop is this newsletter and other messages from the principal. You will also find information about student-led activities taking place during the school day. If you would like to have access to School Loop, please call the Boynton office at 626 – 3404 and we will tell you exactly how to access this important communications tool.

The Teen & Family Counseling Center (TFCC) is offering parent and adolescent workshops in January. The topics include Drug & Alcohol Prevention and Awareness, Anger Management for Teens, Stress Reduction for Teens, and Parenting Classes for Parents of Teens. For more information, log onto School Loop or call the TFCC at 370-9990 ext. 23#.

The next few newsletters will contain information from a publication entitled, High School Years.  Much of the information centers on exploring options for life after high school.

Many Boynton students want to attend college after graduation. Sometimes, they do not have an idea of what they want to study or what kind of career they would like. Start by having your student make a list of interests. Then make a list of academic strengths and

weaknesses. Ask your student to make a list of hobbies he or she enjoys and what kinds of work seem interesting.  Then take the lists and compare them.  Once your student decides that one particular

career matches his or her strengths and interests, it’s time to find the appropriate training.

Explore all options. Local community colleges are a terrific alternative to four-year colleges and they are open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED. After two years, most students have a degree and an option for transferring to a four-year school. Many community colleges offer two-year programs in fields like computer technology and accounting. Ms. Rubenstein and most of the teachers at Boynton can help your student get started in search of the right school.

How to pay for an education after high school can be challenging as well.  Grants, scholarships and student loans are available to students. Learn more about financial assistance by logging onto this website   www.finaid.org or ask Ms. Rubenstein for more advice.

Please support the students in the leadership class as they work to support needy families by donating canned goods to the Boynton food drive. Besides canned goods, dry goods are also acceptable.  All of the collected goods will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The drive ends on December 17.

On behalf of the entire Boynton staff, I want to wish everyone a healthy, stress-free and safe holiday season.
