Parent Newsletter
Boynton High School, Camden Community Day & Alternative Programs
Principal – Michael J. Madalinski November 2007 - Volume 1 – Edition 2 Superintendent – Dr. Rhonda Farber
In the past two newsletters, I have written about our WASC accreditation. The staff has been very busy working to create a self-study that will be the guiding force for the academic and instructional direction of the school. We have talked to every student and worked with the group of students mentioned in the October newsletter. It is extremely important for the self-study to contain the opinions of parents and guardians. Please take a few moments to complete the attached survey. Please return it to the Boynton office by Friday, November 16. You may drop it off yourself or send it to school with your student.
Boynton still needs parents or guardians to volunteer to serve on the school site council. We know that everyone is very, very busy and it is difficult to find any extra time. We promise that if you volunteer to serve on the school site council, it will not be a waste of time. The meetings will have specific agendas and goals. They will last less than an hour and be scheduled when necessary. Please email the principal, Mr. Madalinski at mmadalinski@cuhsd.org or call the office at 626-3404 to volunteer your time. We would like to schedule a school site council meeting for the second week of December.
All of us at Boynton make an attempt to communicate with parents and guardians in a variety of ways. One way is through this newsletter. And, thanks to one of our staff members, Mr. Witkin, we have a website that includes this newsletter, the email addresses of all staff members and a list of important dates. It also lists the upcoming student activities. Take a moment to check it out for yourself.
Another way that you can communicate with Boynton staff members is through School Loop. As most of you know, many Boynton teachers post information on School Loop on a regular basis. Other information that you will find on School Loop is this newsletter and other messages from the principal. You will also find information about student-led activities taking place during the school day. If you would like to have access to School Loop, please call the Boynton office at 626 – 3404 and we will tell you exactly how to access this important communications tool.
Please join me in acknowledging and congratulating the following students for having perfect attendance during the first six weeks of school. They are: Timothy “Brian” Barnes, Yadira Bernal, Jaime Ray
Jonathans, Jessica Longoria, Juan Morales-Rodriguez, and Marissa Sandoval. Although these students had perfect attendance, over one hundred other students missed fewer than three days of school.
You may have heard about the Halloween festivities that took place. Many students and staff members came to school in costumes. At lunch, students participated in a pie eating contest and a mummy wrap contest. The students in the leadership class turned room 14 into a “haunted house” and every student was able to visit room 14. A great time was had by all.
Ms. Thomas and Mr. Witkin have resurrected the Boynton Scholars’ Club (BSC). To qualify for the Boynton Scholar Club a student must obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Every six-week grading period is considered a segment and students are recognized for their scholarship at the end of each grading period. Students must also have satisfactory attendance and no referrals during the grading segment. Students qualifying for two segments will be given a gift certificate. Students who qualify for three segments will be given a BSC t-shirt. After four segments, students will be able to choose their own colored tassel to wear during the commencement. Five segments will qualify a student to wear cord around his/her graduation gown during the commencement. After six segments of qualification, students will be given a special BSC pin to wear with their graduation gown. If a student qualifies for the entire year, he or she will be honored with a seal on the diploma.
